Is there such a thing as a work-life balance?
There shouldn't be.
Most women live their life compartmentalized because that's what society has portrayed as normal, and then we constantly feel guilty about the things we do...or don't do.
We're supposed to have our work, and then we're supposed to have a life, that typically includes family, friends, self-care, hobbies, etc.
And we are taught that they are supposed to be two separate entities.
It's taboo to bring your work home, and it's even more taboo if you bring your life to work.
We see comments like "working from home isn't a substitute for daycare," as though somehow moms are incapable of multitasking ... smh. These comments were even made to moms who are trying to start or grow their own business on their own schedule.
We also see things like "it isn't fair to your job/client if you're trying to take care of your kids while working." or "it isn't fair to your kids if you're working and not paying 100% attention to them."
It is insane to me that we have adopted this viewpoint of all or nothing in our society.
Your life and the important things in it should always come first so why are you expected to "balance" them?!
Why should your work (job or business) get 50% of you, while everything else in your life is supposed to split the other 50%?
Now, don't get me wrong. I know we need money. But work shouldn't infiltrate your life.
It should only be a small piece of it ... a piece that can be incorporated into your lifestyle.
It shouldn't need to be "compartmentalized" away from your family.
Right now, I'm writing this post as my kids are next to me playing, later I'll be typing a report for my client while my kids are watching a movie, and on Tuesday, they will be doing their school work when we are on our weekly call with our group coaching students.
They don't need 100% of my attention, but they ARE getting 100% of my time.
People get that part confused...
Please play attention this week about how you are compartmentalizing your life, and how much of your time work takes from you (it's more than you think).
I even dare you to do an audit so you can re-evaluate if this is how you want the rest of your life to go...
And should you decide that you're completely over giving all your time away for work and/or business, just know that we are here ready to help you prioritize your life into a lifestyle you can get behind!
Rebels Stand Up ... eventually.
