My LONG Journey: Finally Seeing the Light at the End of My Business Building Tunnel

This guest blog post comes from our fellow WFH Rebel Angela, who took the plunge and joined our Freedom Accelerator Course. She wanted to share with you what her journey was like to becoming an entrepreneur. Angela is a writer and you can find out more about her and her writing business on her website.

The Beginning

Let me begin by introducing myself. I’ll explain in a bit about the long business-building journey I have been on since I was 18 (maybe even before then)

My name is Angela Medina. I have known since I was a child that I was meant for entrepreneurship.

From lemonade stands to dog walking, to babysitting, I’ve always made my own money (legally, that is). The best part of becoming an entrepreneur, of course, is being "my own boss," owning a successful business with nobody to answer to, and having the FREEDOM to do as I please. I am not meant to “work for the man.” I am meant for so much more. Knowing this, I have tried building many businesses over the years. Unfortunately, to no avail.

I came to realize that owning your own business isn’t all fun and games. It takes a lot of hard work, sweat, blood & tears both figuratively & literally. Giving up on the dream I’ve had since I was a little girl is not an option. I owe it to her & the little girl I’m raising. If only I could’ve gotten there much faster to give my older kids the same lifestyle I know God will bless her with.

Entrepreneurship & the American Dream

Many of us have the entrepreneurial mindset and spirit, knowing full well the typical 9-5 job is not where we belong.

As I sit here writing this, I think about a coworker, who just today was commenting about being anxious for the days until retirement. He was counting down the days, only a few months left. After spending decades of his life here, it’s sad to think that he likely won’t even be an afterthought to the company within weeks of retiring.

Another coworker commented how nice it must be to be able to retire soon. I don’t believe any of us are meant for the rat race that has become mainstream, the “American Dream” they sold to us at the start of the 1900s. (I’ll get back to that soon.)

Before I go on, yes, I said, my co-workers. I still have my 9-5 corporate job, but I’m working on that problem as quickly as I can. I’m thankful that I have a job in this economy & can help provide for my family. It’s just not what brings me joy anymore & hasn’t for some time. Isn’t happiness & a stress-free environment worth much more than that? I know it is. I know you can agree.

Earlier, I was talking about the American dream. It’s craziness that everyday of our lives is taken up by our J-O-B. From getting our kids ready for school/daycare, getting ourselves to work, endless traffic, pointless meetings, etc. This leaves little time for the important things in life, like our kids' activities, family dinner around the table, a bedtime routine that is not rushed. Everything is rushed everyday & leaves us exhausted. Then we are left to do it all over again, day after day.

Well, the “American Dream” sure sounded good at the moment. They made us believe we could have it all. It’s true, we have more material things. However, it took away the time we once had, the most precious thing we possess, because we cannot replace it. It cannot be given back. Limited time deprives us of memories with our loved ones.

Too often it deprives a lot of us of our health. Between stress, lots of overtime, & working in a fast-paced world, it’s no wonder the health of those in the USA is so poor. We don’t even have time to enjoy a decent, healthy lunch daily because it’s back to the grind we go. Not to mention, worrying about what our boss will say if we’re late, stressing that our kids are sick because we’ll have to call in for the 5th time this flu season. This “American Dream” looks so much more like a nightmare to me.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of living it.

I saw a meme today that made me so angry, it said “What feels like a crime but isn’t?”. The answer was, “Calling in sick to work when you’re actually sick.” I’ve been blessed with understanding bosses over the years, but I still despise having to call in or ask permission for any reason.

Nowadays, so many people are rethinking the “Rat Race”. We want to get into something we can do from home or anywhere we please, wanting financial freedom, & the freedom of not having a regular J-O-B. This is you as well. You are one of us. You are reading this blog for a reason, right?

I’ve Tried it All

As mentioned earlier, I have tried every “business” under the sun, since I was 18 (I am now 38 if that tells you anything). From many MLMs to coaching (that’s a story for another time), to Amazon FBA, etc., etc. ETC.! It’s been a very long journey, but I know by joining the Work From Home Revolution, I am now finally on the right track to getting all that I have worked so hard for. For that, I’m excited & so very thankful.

I’ve participated in training, coaching calls, seminars & everything else that was offered for many of these business opportunities since 2017. Unfortunately, I was not successful in any of them. I didn’t even finish the courses that I spent thousands of dollars & so much time on.

I quickly became overwhelmed. Especially seeing that they were all the same, even if they were completely different genres of business. Spending so much time on these courses & didn’t even see my business growing much, if at all. I wanted & still want more than anything to have financial freedom so that I can quit my 9-5 & run my own business with my chosen hours & location. I never received enough income from these many endeavors to see that happen.

Why I Joined the Revolution.

So now that I’ve rambled on about myself & my opinion of the corporate world, let me tell you why thinking about joining these ladies is the best choice you can make. Also, why did I finally see the light at the end of my business-building tunnel? This is from my personal experience, years of it, as you just heard about.

  1. First, they are incredible women. Women of God. They are genuine, understanding, trustworthy & fun to talk to. Our weekly calls always have me laughing & learning. You don’t have to worry about not getting help & feedback from them. As busy as I’m sure they are, they still take the time to answer your questions & help when you’re in need. That is big in this industry. There’s nothing more frustrating than waiting a week or more for an answer. Especially if you can’t move forward in your business without that help.

  2. The training videos inside their Freedom Accelerator Course are easy to follow & better yet, they don’t drag on for hours. The longest one I came across was maybe 25 minutes. Most are around 10 minutes or less. In this way, I finished the course in a matter of months, not years. Keep in mind, how fast you complete it depends on how long you spend on them daily. Most weeks I did a couple of hours a day, 3-6 days a week.

  3. Each module in the training has you take the steps to build your business. Because of that, as I was training, I was seeing my business for what it could be, not just what I imagined. During this process, since I was building my website, social media, portfolio, etc., I was one step closer to going live. I never had that experience with any of my other businesses.

  4. The Freedom Accelerator Coaching Program has been a Godsend for me. I am well on my way to launching my editing, proofreading, and copywriting business. I’m so close to my freedom from the 9-5 monotony I can smell it. There have been other freelance groups & training I could have taken, but this was the best fit for me. I’m so thankful I chose this path & am thankful for these ladies.

The future looks promising, my fellow entrepreneurs.

If you’re still trying to decide if getting coaching from Tara & Nicole is right for you, this is your sign. Come to the bright side. It’s much better here.
